State Senator Patty Ritchie is announcing her legislation to honor fallen New York State Trooper Joel Davis by naming a bridge in his honor has been signed into law by the Governor.
Under the measure (S6839A), the bridge over the Indian River on Route 11 in the Village of Philadelphia will be renamed the “New York State Trooper Joel R. Davis Memorial Bridge.” In July of 2017, Trooper Davis was killed while responding to a call for help in the Town of Theresa.
“Trooper Joel Davis was respected by so many people across our region not only for being a dedicated law enforcement officer, but also a man who was deeply devoted to his community and family. Trooper Davis dedicated his life to service, selflessly putting the safety others ahead of his own,” Senator Ritchie said.
“In naming this bridge in his honor as the New York State Trooper Joel R. Davis Memorial Bridge, we are ensuring the memory of a true hero will live on forever.”
Prior to becoming a member of the New York State Police in 2013, Trooper Davis served as a member of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for ten years. He was an active member of his community, who devoted time to youth sports programs in the region.
