State Senator Patty Ritchie is announcing she has secured $50,000 in state funding for the Village of Dexter to make significant upgrades to its Memorial Field Recreation Park.
Dexter’s Memorial Field features a playground, pavilion, picnic area and sports fields with a concession stand. The three baseball and softball fields have been used by thousands of children and adults in not only Dexter, but also Brownville, Glen Park and other local communities.
The funding delivered by Senator Ritchie has already allowed the village to upgrade the park's 45-year-old lights to new LED lighting and it will soon replace fencing, as well as update the bleachers.
“This park is an important part of Jefferson County. Nearly every weekend, you will see children out playing baseball or softball, having fun on the playground and families gathering for a day at the park. The new LED lighting will not only be more cost efficient for Dexter, but it also enhances the safety of everyone who uses the facility.” said Senator Ritchie. “I am glad to be able to secure this grant money for these necessary improvements.”
“In addition to the lighting, the village is in the process of replacing the fencing and updating the bleachers that were initially installed in the early 1970's for the three ball fields,” said Village of Dexter Mayor James R. Eves. “I would sincerely like to thank Senator Ritchie on behalf of this community for her support because these improvements would not be possible without this grant.”
Release of funds is subject to state approval.
