State Senator Patty Ritchie has delivered $50,000 to the Town of Edwards for its new community playground.
“Unfortunately, too many children are missing out on the benefits of playing outside because they are glued to electronic devices,” said Senator Ritchie. “Playgrounds are a great way to promote physical activity, grow a child’s social skills and allow them to use their imagination. I am pleased that the children of Edwards now have a place to go outside and have some fun.”
The new playground in Edwards includes a swing set, several slides, climbing bars and bench seating. It is also fenced in to help ensure safety and security.
“On behalf of the youth and young families in the Town of Edwards, we want to thank Senator Patty Ritchie for helping us get the funds we needed to establish our playground,” said Town of Edwards Supervisor Jan C. Lennox. “This is a prime example of Senator Ritchie and her vision of helping the youth enjoy the outdoors of the North Country.”
In another effort to help promote childhood health in Edwards, Senator Ritchie recently provided the Edwards-Knox Central School District with special funding as part of her “Seeds of Success” program. Among other agriculture-based projects, students at the school were able to take part in planting and harvesting fresh food crops.
