In advance of Armed Forces Day, State Senator Patty Ritchie is encouraging the public to check out a new exhibit she is hosting that highlights the service and sacrifice of 10th Mountain Division troops.

Now on display through the remainder of May, the exhibit at Watertown’s Dulles State Office Building features photographs from the 7th annual 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Day, which was held earlier this year at the New York State Capitol. Sponsored by Senator Ritchie, the event highlights the contributions of the Division to our national security, as well as ways in which the installation benefits our regional and state economies.

“Every year, it is an honor for me to host soldiers at the Capitol for 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Day. I hope the public takes the opportunity to check out this display, which features photos from the special event and serves as just one more way to highlight the ways in which these brave men and women serve,”  Senator Ritchie said.

This year’s 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Day featured a special address in the Senate Chamber by Major General Walter Piatt, who shortly after the event deployed to Iraq where he is currently serving.

In addition, the event also included special displays throughout the Legislative Office Building that allowed lawmakers, staff and visitors to see firsthand the equipment and techniques utilized to complete their missions. Community groups integral to the bond between the North Country and Fort Drum also staffed displays and taught lawmakers and visitors about their missions.
