From Fort Drum’s Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield, Senator Patty Ritchie recently joined soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division’s 10th Combat Aviation Brigade to learn about its “Falcon’s Peak” training.
At the briefing, Senator Ritchie and guests learned about the importance of Fort Drum’s aviators learning how to fly at lower than normal altitudes in order to defeat emerging threats with advanced air defense systems. By flying tactically—lower to the ground—crews can use the cover of terrain and darkness to protect themselves.
“Every day, the dedicated, skilled and brave members of the 10th Mountain Division are adapting—and improving—to meet their goal of protecting our nation’s freedom,” said Senator Patty Ritchie.
“I would like to thank members of the 10th Mountain Division for their recent welcome to the installation to learn about ‘Falcon’s Peak,’ as well as for their ongoing efforts to make our community more aware of the important work they do to keep us safe.”
Attending this training continues on Senator Ritchie’s efforts to support the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum. Earlier this year, Senator Ritchie hosted 10th Mountain Division Commanding General Major General Walter Piatt and troops at the State Capitol for the seventh annual “10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Day.” To learn more about the annual event, which helps to raise awareness about the sacrifices of troops and the importance of the installation, click here.
