Senator Funke Announces $160,000 State Grant for Security Improvements for Irondequoit Police Department
September 19, 2018
On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, Irondequoit Police Chief Richard Tantalo and Town Supervisor David Seeley announced that a state grant secured by New York State Senator Rich Funke will help fund new security improvements at the Irondequoit Police Department located at 1300 Titus Avenue.
“The enhancements planned for the Irondequoit Police Department will serve to benefit our hardworking officers and civilian staff alike as they strive each and every day to keep our residents safe here in Town, said Supervisor Seeley. “We are thankful to Senator Funke for making these important upgrades to our security system possible and will always continue to seek new ways to improve our Town Hall complex.”
“We are grateful to Senator Funke for this funding opportunity which will provide enhanced security and safety measures at the Irondequoit Police Department” said Chief Richard Tantalo. “This will benefit the personnel who work for the Irondequoit Police Department as well as those stakeholders that visit our facility. This will also provide resources so that a ‘Safe Zone’ can be established for individuals to use when conducting personal transactions.”
The state grant secured by Senator Funke will be used to upgrade camera systems throughout the interior of the Irondequoit Police Department (IPD) building, install exterior cameras surrounding the facility, and build security fencing around the perimeter of the facility, complete with state-of-the-art automation. These upgrades and installations will serve to better secure the parking lot where both IPD officers and civilian staff park their personal vehicles.
“I commend Chief Tantalo and Supervisor Seeley for taking the necessary steps to ensure the police department has the highest safety measures in place to protect all staff and residents," said Senator Funke.
As one of the largest suburbs in Monroe County with approximately 52,000 residents, Irondequoit town leaders work year-round to ensure a high quality of life for all residents.
In addition to cameras and fencing, the funding will also allow for a safety exchange site or “safe zone” to be implemented outside of the Police Department complex, where residents can safely conduct business transactions when utilizing services such as eBay or Craigslist.
