Today, Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I,Ref-North Tonawanda) joined the North Tonawanda Fire Department as they revealed the station’s new light rescue vehicle. The new vehicle was purchased thanks to a $100,000 DASNY grant secured by Sen. Ortt, replacing an eight-year-old model previously used by the department. Featured on this new light rescue vehicle are several technological enhancements, including a hydraulic “Jaws of Life” tool, which will assist with rescuing drivers in car accident situations.
“The residents of North Tonawanda can rest a bit easier knowing their city’s excellent fire and emergency recuse professionals now have a top of the line tool to match their expertise,” said Sen. Ortt. “This new equipment is versatile enough to be utilized at nearly every call, making it a tremendous and efficient use of public funds.”
“This project will prove to be extremely beneficial to the city,” said North Tonawanda Fire Chief, Joe Sikora. “Due to the fact that this vehicle goes on every call, it will play a vital role in the department’s operations each emergency. The old vehicle was eight years old with over 100,000 miles on it so the time for a new one was near, and with cooperation from the Senator’s office and the city, we were able to make this happen.”
