Last week, Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I,Ref-North Tonawanda) presented $75,000 in education funds to the Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Orleans-Niagara BOCES at an event held by the Cornell CO-OP. These funds are designated for the addition and continuation of educational programs within New York State’s schools, museums, and libraries. One of the programs that will be generated with this funding is the creation of a local workforce development initiative, while the other will be a grade school education program aimed at helping guide students toward agriculture-based technology fields in higher education.
“Not only will these funds help create a pathway for high school students who are looking to receive higher education, but they will help those older residents in our community who may be looking for a career change,” said Ortt. “We have seen incredible success with agricultural-based education in rural communities across the state, and the positive impact that the Orleans-Niagara BOCES has had with its Niagara Falls site is tangible proof that these training centers are working. I’m excited for these programs to get up and running, and look forward to the students in our community making the best of these new opportunities.”
