“While Attorney General Underwood may possess the same regressive and misguided views as her predecessor, I am pleased that the rest of the Legislature shared my belief in separating politics from this selection process and has appointed Barbara Underwood as Attorney General. Because of the unfortunate history our state has recently experienced with previous holders of the Attorney General position, it is vital we restore public confidence in that office, allowing our next Attorney General to be selected for the people, by the people. By appointing AG Underwood, the Legislature has removed the political party boss influence on November’s Attorney General Election and left the decision in the hands of New York’s residents.”
