Senator Mayer to Host State Expert for Senior Scam Prevention Event
June 18, 2018
WESTCHESTER, NY--State Senator Shelley B. Mayer (D-37) has organized three upcoming public events throughout the 37th Senate District with Guest Speaker Gary Brown, Assistant Attorney General and statewide expert on senior scam prevention.
Assistant Attorney General Brown will teach residents how to identify the red flags of the most common phone, postal, mail and email scams targeting seniors. Scammers are constantly developing new schemes and new ways to target seniors, but fraud prevention experts have identified the basic anatomy of a scam and the "hooks" they use. The most common hooks rely on people looking for a good deal, wanting to help those they care about, or putting the person in a state of fear or desperation. These events will help arm seniors with the tools and knowledge to always stay one step ahead of the scammer.
How to Avoid Getting Scammed: A Guide for Seniors will take place on:
- Monday, June 25, 2018. 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. Grinton I. Will Library, Stories Room, 1500 Central Park Avenue, Yonkers NY 10708
- Thursday, June 28, 2018. 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Port Chester Senior Center, 222 Grace Church Street, Port Chester, NY 10573
- Tuesday, July 17, 2018. 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. Tuckahoe Senior Center, 4 Union Place, Tuckahoe, NY 10707
