New York Farm Bureau to Senator Murphy: You Got a Friend

Albany, NY - Senator Terrence Murphy had what many of us would call an idyllic childhood. Growing up next to Wilkens Fruit Farm in Yorktown, he enjoyed apple picking and skating on Mill Pond. As a result, he has always understood the important roles that nature and agriculture play in our everyday lives, and as a legislator, he has sought methods to protect and enhance our natural resources.

Citing Senator Murphy's past support, the New York Farm Bureau named him to its annual "Circle of Friends." The Circle of Friends honor is based upon each legislator's voting record on issues of agricultural importance as well as other evidence of legislative support, including sponsorship of bills that New York Farm Bureau has either supported or opposed during the most recent legislative session.
 
Senator Murphy said, "Our agricultural system is a critical part of the Hudson Valley's economic development, providing food and employment opportunities. I am honored to be a member of the Farm Bureau's Circle of Friends and will continue to fight for and support issues that extol the benefits of our agricultural community."

The New York Farm Bureau motto is "To Serve and Strengthen Agriculture." The Farm Bureau is a non-governmental, volunteer organization financed and controlled by member families for the purpose of solving economic and public policy issues challenging the agricultural industry.
 
Founded in 1911 in Broome County, New York, the New York Farm Bureau was formed by the local chamber of commerce and the Lackawanna Railroad, the United States Department of Agriculture and the New York State College of Agriculture to improve the income of farmers, and, by extension, the economy of the region.
 
Since its founding, New York Farm Bureau has been in the business of providing the resources that support and enrich the rural way of life. Through the efforts of our organization, farmers have learned to work together to promote more efficient production, better marketing, fair legislation, and a safe food supply and work environment.
