Senator Murphy Comments On Historic Vote For Attorney General
May 22, 2018
Albany, NY - Earlier today the New York State Legislature approved the appointment of Barbara Underwood to serve as Attorney General for the rest of 2018. Her appointment comes after Eric Schneiderman quickly resigned due to several accusations of physical abuse by four women.
New York State Senator Terrence Murphy was selected as one of four Senators to serve on the bipartisan committee charged with interviewing potential candidates. The committee interviewed 13 candidates in total.
State Senator Terrence Murphy said,
"Since being appointed to the committee that oversaw the candidate interviews I have maintained that this is about qualifications. For that reason, and after carefully examining all who stood to serve our State, Barbara Underwood rose above the rest.
I wish her the best in this role and I know she will serve New York admirably."
