Albany, NY - Tomorrow's next great physicist, poet, Hall of Famer, or business giant could be attending a local high school right now. To honor young students who have demonstrated leadership qualities in their school or community, Senator Terrence Murphy is pleased to announce the 2018 New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Program (YLRA). The program focuses on recognizing well-rounded junior and senior students who not only excel academically but also through extracurricular and volunteer activities.
"February is National Youth Leadership Month. The award recognizes and honors outstanding students who will become our future leaders," said Senator Murphy. "This is a great chance to recognize a student for their achievements or the great work they do to benefit their community."
This year's award categories include Academics, Athletics, Arts and Community Service. Teachers, administrators, counselors and other school faculty can recommend students by filling out an online nomination form, attaching a recommendation letter and a brief statement from the student citing their accomplishments. Participating schools are invited to nominate up to five junior or senior students for the program.
Senator Murphy will present selected students with a proclamation and share their story on his website. All entries must be submitted electronically. The program deadline for online submissions is April 6, 2018.
