Montrose, NY - There can be no doubt that children, families, and adults come to the Hendrick Hudson Free Library to learn, be entertained, and let their imaginations run free. Now, thanks to a $10,000 grant from Senator Terrence Murphy, they can do it all in comfort. Money from the grant was used to buy new plush furniture for patrons and provide WiFi.
"Libraries are the backbone of our education system," commented Senator Murphy. "The staff at the Hendrick Hudson Library is always thinking out of the box, creating exciting programs and events for children and families. Now that they have upgraded their building, we wanted to make sure they had modern comforts, as well as additional WiFi."
Westchester County Legislator John Testa joined Senator Murphy in announcing the grant. "I want to thank Senator Murphy for supporting the Library. My wife worked at a library for twenty years, so we have always been involved with libraries as a family and realized their importance. The Hendrick Hudson Free Library is a hub in the community and a great spot for events. The new amenities will help attract more people to the library."
"Senator Murphy has always appreciated the value of our library to the community," said Library Director Jill Davis, who celebrated receiving the grant with Business Manager Jenny Kolesar and Administrative Assistant Eleanor Daly. "This will be added to Jenny's ledger. I want to thank Senator Murphy and our staff for making this moment happen"
Senator Murphy had previously provided the Library with a grant that was used to remodel their Children's Room, which was expanded by 1200 feet, allowing for increased programming space, additional shelving, and the construction of a permanent puppet theater.
The Hendrick Hudson Free Library offers a wide range of programming for children, teens, and adults, including guest speakers, book discussion groups, craft programs, storytelling, tie-dyeing, and puppet plays. The Library also began providing a passport service recently that has been a huge success and a beneficial service for the community.
