Senator Murphy's 2nd Annual Nurses Of The Year Ceremony Celebrates Accomplishments Of Medicine's Unsung Superstars

Valhalla, NY - There are more than 145,000 registered nurses in New York State. Some, like Liza Mirditaj, who works at Westchester Medical Center, have performed the heroic act of saving a life. Others, like Jaquelin Pisano of Phelps Hospital, have provided the community with needed services that could save lives. In appreciation of nurses who work in the 40th Senate District, Senator Terrence Murphy hosted his annual Nurses of the Year celebration at Westchester Medical Center on May 21. The ceremony recognized the many contributions made by 14 nurses in the 40th Senate District, particularly in their roles as volunteers, mentors, and departmental leaders.
 
"We decided to do this ceremony to honor our nurses because they don't get the attention they deserve," said Senator Murphy. "Nurses are the eyes and ears of physicians, providing quality care that heals the body, mind, and soul. It's no small wonder that nursing is consistently ranked as the most trusted profession in our country. Thank you for your service to New York State, to the 40th Senate District, our local hospitals, and our families. You're literally saving lives."
 

The First lady of the 40th Senate District, Caroline Murphy, the Senator's wife, and an RN, served as Master of Ceremonies. "Nursing is perhaps one of the most underrated roles in the healthcare industry," said Mrs. Murphy. "This evening holds a special place for me because I've spent over two decades as a nurse. It's no exaggeration to say that with the exception of being a mother, nursing has provided me with the most profound experiences in my life."
