Senator Murphy's grant gives Marble Ave $300k facelift

Pleasantville, NY - Marble Avenue, the main thoroughfare that runs through Mount Pleasant and Pleasantville, took a tremendous beating last winter. Potholes resembling World War I foxholes appeared, threating to rupture tires, misalign alignments and stress out drivers. Senator Terrence Murphy and local elected officials were inundated with pleas to fix the well-traveled road.  Senator Murphy responded by securing $300,000 to make Marble Avenue a pleasant and safe ride once again.
 
On August 26, Senator Murphy surprised Mt. Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi with a check for $150,000 to repair the Mt. Pleasant section of Marble Avenue. The presentation was part of the Fifth Annual Mt. Pleasant Day Fair, one of the busiest and most anticipated local events of the year.

"I have been working closely with Supervisor Fulgenzi, County Legislator Cunzio, and the Town Board to secure funding to fulfill the goal of revitalizing Mt. Pleasant's downtown area," said Senator Murphy. "I'm here today to add another piece to the puzzle by presenting the Town of Mt. Pleasant with $150,000 to help get rid of the potholes along Marble Avenue."

 
Mt. Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi stated, "The safety of our roads and infrastructure is directly tied to our economic growth and quality of life. Marble Avenue is a busy main road that serves as a gateway through Mt. Pleasant. Thousands of commuters, businesses and school children use it every day. I look forward to seeing the positive effect this repaving project has on the community."
 
On August 30, Senator Murphy presented Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer with a check for $150,000. The money will finance repairs to Marble Avenue along the stretch of road that runs through Pleasantville. Westchester County Legislator Margaret Cunzio, Pleasantville Village Manager Eric Morrissey, and Jeffrey Econom, P.E., Superintendent of Public Works for Pleasantville, were on hand to celebrate funding for the long-anticipated project.
 
Senator Murphy noted, "Right now there are a lot of plates on the road and it's a rough ride. The repaving should commence soon and be completed by the end of the year. This is all about improving everyone's quality of life."
 
"It's a ninety-plus degree day today but getting $150,000 to fix Marble Avenue is very cool. This is wonderful news for our town," said Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer. "I can't say enough good things about Senator Murphy and Legislator Cunzio, who are strong advocates for us in Albany and in Westchester County. Residents and commuters will be very pleased with the results of this project. This will be money well spent."
 
Westchester County Legislator Margaret Cunzio stated, "This is something people will see. It's tangible and it will make a big difference in everyone's commute."
