NEW YORK--Today, a federal judge dismissed the President's baseless lawsuit against New York, related to Senator Brad Hoylman's TRUST Act, for lack of jurisdiction.
Senator Hoylman issued the following statement in response:
"No one is above the law -- not even the President of the United States. I'm glad to see another baseless Trump lawsuit tossed out of court.
While the Trump Administration tramples over our democracy and the rule of law, New York has given Congress a responsible way to hold the executive branch accountable through the TRUST Act
Now, New York stands ready to assist Congress carrying out its Constitutional oversight duties. We must protect the rule of law."
The TRUST Act, which Senator Hoylman and Assembly Member David Buchwald passed into law earlier this year, enables the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to provide tax return information to requesting Congressional committees.
The New York State Legislature passed the TRUST Act on May 22, 2019 and it was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo on July 8, 2019.
