Statement from Senator Brad Hoylman on the Updated L-Train Mitigation Plan
January 17, 2019
NEW YORK- Senator Brad Hoylman (D/WF-Manhattan) released the following statement in response to the updated L-Train mitigation plan:
Senator Hoylman said: “"I am thankful that Governor Cuomo is trying to deliver better service to our constituents, something we can all agree on. That said, he and the MTA have yet to provide answers on a number of critical issues--and I remain concerned about the status of the Governor's new plan. Last week, I signed on to a joint letter to Governor Cuomo alongside Borough Presidents Brewer, Adams, and a number of my colleagues in government expressing our deep concerns.
We are demanding an independent analysis of the proposed plan and its impact on the long-term viability of the Canarsie Tunnel.
We need to know whether this plan is going to put our constituents' health at risk through exposure to silica dust and other hazards.
We need a detailed timeline outlining the schedule for night and weekend work.
We need to know whether all the plans that have been made to minimize the impact of L-Train work on New Yorkers' commutes will be maintained.
We need to know what will happen to any money that's saved by this new plan, and ensure that it goes toward critical community needs like accessibility upgrades to our subway stations.
We need more transparency and community input moving forward.
I believe hearings in Albany could be warranted.
Here's the bottom line: I will not accept any plan that leaves New Yorkers worse off. We need answers."
