(Albany, NY) -- Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) introduced legislation (S.6743-A) to force e-cigarette makers to disclose the ingredients in their products to consumers and to the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), before the products can be sold.
“Vaping products will have to list their ingredients on the packaging,” said Senator David Carlucci. “This is a necessary step in the wake of people dying and hundreds sickened by a mysterious lung illness linked to vaping. The State Health Department should be able to determine if these products are safe, and if not, prevent them from going to market. Consumers in turn, should know what they are putting in their bodies.”
At least 9 people have died from a severe lung illness, and at least 530 people have become sick, in 38 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In New York, at least 41 people have fallen ill.
Under Carlucci’s bill, the NYSDOH will have the authority to test any vaping product for dangerous substances and prevent it from being sold.
The bill would take effect 6 months after it is signed into law.
