"On the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, we remember those who bravely fought against bigotry and stood up for LGBTQIA equality after police raided the Stonewall Inn in New York City. The LGBTQIA community inspired a global movement for equal rights that continues today, until every person is treated equally under the law, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
In New York, we have taken steps to protect transgender and gender non-conforming New Yorkers by passing and signing into law GENDA, which eliminates employment and housing discrimination against the LGBTQIA community and protects transgender individuals under the State's hate crimes law. We also banned the inhumane practice of conversion therapy on children.
We celebrate the tremendous progress made, and know we have further to go."
