It is great that automakers are recognizing this very serious and deadly situation. However, their sluggish response of waiting 6 years to implement technology, which is already in use, is unacceptable. More children will die each year if we do not act sooner. I will be moving forward on my bill, requiring all new vehicles in New York State have a rear alert system by July 1, 2021. Automakers should not be allowed to skirt the federal government and state laws to require them to act sooner."
