Senator Fred Akshar continues “Akshar's All-Stars” student recognition program at Charles F Johnson Elementary, Owego Apalachin Middle School and Newark Valley Middle School

Senator Fred Akshar continued the second year of his district-wide “Akshar's All-Stars” student recognition program on Friday by recognizing students at one Broome County School and Two Tioga County schools.

Each month, Senator Akshar recognizes local students selected by their school districts in the 52nd Senate District who have shown great leadership, compassion, school spirit or improvement amongst their peers.

Last school year, Akshar recognized 30 students across school districts in Broome, Tioga, Chenango and Delaware counties.

This year, Akshar's recognized students at Susquehanna Valley, Chenango Valley, Chenango Forks, Whitney Point, Tioga Central, Waverly, Spencer Van-Etten, Candor, Harpursville, Afton, Bainbridge-Guilford, DCMO BOCES Chenango, Windsor, Hancock, Deposit, Norwich, Valley Heights Christian Academy, Oxford, Greene, Johnson City High School, Maine-Endwell High School, Glenwood Elementary School, Seton Catholic High School, Broome-Tioga BOCES, Roosevelt Elementary School and Coolidge Elementary School.

For each student recognized as an “Akshar All-Star”, Senator Akshar presents them with a t-shirt, framed certificate and a challenge coin.

At Charles F. Johnson Jr. Elementary, Akshar recognized 5th grader Winston Rockefeller for being an outstanding student academically, personally and socially. A member of Student Council and Safety Patrol, Winston's humble, enthusiastic and humorous personality has allowed all of his classmates to think of him as a friend. Winston has also raised a great deal of money for the American Heart Association through the Jump Rope for Heart initiative.

At Owego Apalachin Middle School, Akshar recognized 8th grader Jace Riegel for exemplifying leadership skills and school spirit. Described by his teachers as a “go-getter,” Jace is always ready to offer help to students, teachers and staff. Jace has earned a place on the High Honor roll throughout his time at OA Middle School, while also serving as a positive role model and source of help and support for his peers.

At Newark Valley Middle School, Akshar recognized 7th grader McKenna Buck for her outstanding academic success, integrity and leadership each and every day at Newark Valley Middle School. McKenna ranks in the top three of her class with a 98.3 percent grade point average and excels in Honors Math and other STEM fields. Despite her dedication to academic excellence, McKenna is described by her teachers as caring and helpful to her classmates, always finding time to lend a helping hand and serving as a positive role model for her fellow students.
