ONEONTA, 10/02/19 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I/ – Oneonta) today commented on the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) preliminary report regarding the Schoharie limousine crash on October 6, 2018:
“As we approach the one-year anniversary of the heartbreaking limousine crash that claimed twenty lives in Schoharie County, it is imperative that we take definitive action to help prevent future tragedies. The preliminary report from the NTSB offers several recommendations that must be implemented immediately, starting with more thorough inspections, and a requirement that all limo passengers wear a safety belt.
“Families who lost loved ones deserve action. They have made it their mission to ensure others won’t have to experience the grief and pain they now live with. While the state senate adopted a number of bills this past year, including a measure requiring the use of safety belts, a consensus with the assembly was not reached. There is no excuse to wait any longer. The time is now to update our laws, enforce those already on the books, and improve limousine safety.”
