ONEONTA, 01/10/19 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I/Ref – Oneonta) today announced his committee assignments for the 2019-20 legislative session. Along with his previously announced position as ranking Republican of the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Seward will also serve on the senate standing committees on education, finance, higher education, insurance, and rules.
“My leadership role on the Senate Finance Committee is a major responsibility, and I look forward to bringing an upstate viewpoint to state budget negotiations. I am already concerned that proposals being discussed in Albany will cost too much and will not reflect the ideals of much of our state,” said Senator Seward.
“I look forward to continuing to have a role on the Senate Insurance Committee. As a long-time chairman of the committee, I have extensive knowledge of insurance issues and have helped develop a number of our state insurance laws and policies. I will continue to advocate for measures that improve insurance availability and affordability while ensuring this key industry will continue to thrive and employ thousands in New York State,” Seward added.
“I have long served on both the education and higher education committees and will continue to support programs that help our next generation of leaders succeed in the classroom and pursue a productive future here at home. We also need to increase our workforce training initiatives that link our schools with employers,” Seward concluded.
