Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) will continue to collect and distribute food and essential items, for and to, federal workers impacted by the partial shutdown of the U.S. government, even though President Trump has re-opened the government for three weeks while negotiations continue over his proposed border wall with Mexico.

“We don’t know whether the shutdown will reoccur in three weeks, or how fast these workers will receive the back pay the President has promised them,” Sanders said. “Under those conditions, we will continue our mission to help these public servants until a solid and concrete solution to this crisis is reached.”

Senator Sanders has received donations from community leaders, organizations and unions, and so far has distributed items to workers from the Department of Justice, and Department of Homeland Security. Most recently, he received a very large donation of food from the Theatrical Wardrobe Union, Local 764, IATSE.

Items can be dropped off at Senator Sanders’ District Office, located at 142-01 Rockaway Boulevard in South Ozone Park, Monday – Friday, between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Those seeking to receive items must present a valid, current, federal ID from one of the agencies impacted by the government shutdown
