Senator Skoufis Applauds Passage of Pay-to-Play Ban
"Today, the state Senate took a crucial step to end the corrupt pay-to-play culture that permeates much of government. I was proud to strongly support the passage of legislation prohibiting vendors from contributing to elected officials while seeking business or government contracts from those same office holders. In addition to today's important bill, I will be introducing legislation to extend this pay-to-play prohibition to individuals and businesses seeking permits from the state such as power plant approvals from the Department of Environmental Conservation. If you're asking the state for a permit to operate a major facility you shouldn't be able to donate to the campaigns of the people who will be approving your permit or appointing the commissioners who oversee the process. Rooting out the corruption in our state's campaign finance laws is long overdue, and today’s bill passage is a significant step forward."
