Skoufis and Carlucci Applaud $61,100 in Homeland Security Grants for Rockland County
Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) and Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) applauded the announcement that Rockland County will receive $61,100 in federal homeland security funding for local bomb squads to combat the threat from explosive devices. The funding is administered by the Division of Homeland Security through the federal Homeland Security Grant Program.
“The City of Newburgh was recently faced with a bomb-scare at SUNY Orange’s Newburgh campus, and the Rockland County bomb squad was called in to work with local and state law enforcement to assess the threat,” said Senator Skoufis. “This is just one example of how local bomb squads collaborate to keep the public safe every day. Giving support to the brave first responders who protect us from individuals looking to inflict mass destruction is of the utmost importance. This funding is essential so that the Rockland County bomb squad can continue to provide a swift response when necessary, and I thank the Governor for his support.”
Senator Carlucci said, "In Rockland County our bomb squad members put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe. It's imperative, we provide them with the funding necessary to equip and train officers properly. This is about preventing carnage and ultimately saving lives. Thank you to the Governor for his efforts to secure this critical funding."
This funding will help equip and support the County’s local FBI-accredited bomb squad to locate and prevent potential emergencies caused by explosive devices.
