Skoufis and Jacobson Secure Funding for New Marlborough Community Center

Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) and Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-Newburgh) announced they have secured grants of $375,000 and $175,000, respectively, for the Town of Marlborough to transform the 40-year-old Town of Marlborough Ambulance Corps (TOMVAC) building into a desperately-needed community center. This funding is the remaining amount necessary to start and fully complete the construction of the new community center.

The grants secured by Senator Skoufis and Assemblymember Jacobson will be distributed through the State and Municipal Facilities Program.

“I was proud to fight for this funding for the Town of Marlborough,” said Senator Skoufis. “Community centers are some of the most-used resources a municipality can provide and I’m delighted that my constituents from the Town of Marlborough will soon be able to benefit from a new center in this historic building. There’s lots more to come for the Marlborough community and I thank Supervisor Lanzetta for working with us on behalf of our mutual constituents.” 

Assemblymember Jacobson said, "I am pleased to be able to help the Town of Marlborough convert its former TOMVAC building into a community center. The new facility will give the Town a much-needed space for large gatherings and serve as an important hub for residents of all ages. Kudos to Supervisor Lanzetta who has advocated relentlessly for this project." 

Town Supervisor Al Lanzetta said, "The people of the Town of Marlborough voted to show their support to keep the TOMVAC building and turn it into a  community/recreation center. Our State public officials acknowledged the need and desire of the people and made sure they returned monies to the taxpayers to support the building of the new community center. We are extremely grateful to Senator Skoufis and Assemblyman Jacobson." 

Former Assemblyman Frank Skartados first awarded a $250,000 grant for the project back in early 2018. The additional, combined $550,000 secured by Skoufis and Jacobson will cover the balance of the new community center’s cost; none of the construction’s cost will be borne by local property taxpayers.
