Skoufis Applauds DEC Cleanup of Contaminated Site in Vails Gate

Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) applauded the Department of Environmental Conservation for announcing a cleanup of the former Safety Kleen Dry Cleaners on Temple Hill Rd. in Vails Gate. The contaminated site is considered “Class 2” in the State Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste Sites.

Safety Kleen Dry Cleaners in the Price Chopper plaza in Vails Gate has been a topic of remediation for over two decades.

“Given that the Department of Environmental Conservation has been aware of contamination at this site since 1998, I’m thrilled that the DEC has finally committed to an action plan,” said Senator Skoufis. “Back in March, I sent a letter to the DEC requesting that the department moves to find a quick solution to the problem at the site. I look forward to continuing to work with the DEC and environmental advocates to ensure that this project is completed and the remediation is effective.”

Patrick McClellan, State Policy Director at the New York League of Conservation Voters, said, "Residents near the Vails Gate contaminated site can breathe easier knowing that the Department of Environmental Conservation will soon clean up and remediate the site. We thank Senator Skoufis and DEC for working together to improve the environmental health of this community."

Skoufis remains steadfast in his fight to ensure that our communities are protected from contaminants and that the State delivers remediation.
