Statement By Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I,REF-Glenville) On Passage of the Child Victims Act
Senator James N. Tedisco
January 28, 2019
“Those who commit such heinous crimes against children are monsters and should pay for the physical as well as emotional and psychological violence they have perpetrated and face the long arm of the law. I have long publicly supported the Child Victims Act and was proud to vote for it today.”
“My one disappointment is that the criminal and civil statute of limitations is not totally eliminated. I’m heartened that my conference heeded my concerns about making sure all victims of sexual abuse have the right to get justice and get their perpetrators off the street by bringing forth an amendment to improve the law by eliminating the statute of limitations and allowing in a court of law the facts and evidence in each individual case. Let’s let the facts and the evidence speak for itself. This is a good start and a good bill but I’m hopeful we will come back and revisit it to ensure that one hundred percent of all victims are allowed to receive justice by passing the elimination of the statute of eliminations!”
