Senator Jim Tedisco
November 21, 2019
Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I,REF-Glenville) today announced that the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) will be enhancing the reflectivity of existing signs and will install additional signs to reduce truck bridge strikes at the Glenridge Road rail bridge in Glenville.
Senator Tedisco noted that there have been 57 bridge strikes and an additional 90 near-miss back-ups of trucks that almost got caught in the bridge causing traffic jams in recent years on the state road. This has cost Glenville taxpayers well over $50,000 for police, fire and highway personnel response.
Tedisco has been calling on the DOT to do something to enhance traffic safety at the Glenridge Road bridge overpass in Glenville for some time. He has personally witnessed and photographed several bridge strikes at the Glenridge Road overpass during his travels in the 49thSenate District.
“The DOT’s announcement that they will be working to enhance the reflectivity of existing signage and install additional warning signs is a positive step in the right direction that hopefully, will help prevent some of the bridge strikes, reduce the traffic headaches, and most importantly, potentially save lives,” said Senator Jim Tedisco. “I want to thank DOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez for investigating this ongoing traffic safety issue and taking action to help remedy the situation.”
