Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I,REF-Glenville) today announced a new $50,000 state grant that he has secured to enable the Rexford Fire Department to purchase “Jaws of Life” extrication tools to help firefighters rescue people who are trapped in their vehicles.
“In emergencies, seconds count, and when accidents happen, these new extrication tools can make the difference between life and death,” said Senator Tedisco. “I was proud to be able to secure this $50,000 state grant for the Rexford Fire Department and return tax dollars back to the 49thSenate District to help support our heroic first responders and enhance their efforts to protect the public.”
“With the help of Senator Tedisco, we were able to obtain these new Genesis battery-operated rescue tools that have the cutting force to allow our firefighters to cut modern metals such as ultra-high strength boron steel. This will have an immediate impact on our community and the safety of our firefighters,” said Rexford Fire Chief Aaron Cote.
At the grant announcement, the Rexford Fire Department performed an extrication drill on a vehicle to demonstrate how the new “Jaws of Life” tools work.
