Tedisco to Stewart-Cousins, Heastie and Governor: “Get Back to Session and Put Limo Laws on the Books”
Senator Jim Tedisco
June 27, 2019
Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I,REF-Glenville) today is calling on state legislative leaders Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, along with Governor Andrew Cuomo to bring the Senate and Assembly back for an “extraordinary session” to iron-out differences and get legislation passed to protect the public and prevent another limo crash like what happened last year in Schoharie, and a few years ago on Long Island.
On June 6th, the Senate unanimously passed a holistic package of nine limo safety bills. The Assembly passed its own series of limo safety bills on the final day of session. Only one of the bills has passed both houses of the legislature.
“The families of the victims of the horrific limo crashes in Schoharie and Long Island have waited long enough while the rest of the family of New York State is still endangered by the existing antiquated laws! Since this didn’t get done by last week, it’s time for the Leaders to call us all back and get this important legislation passed and signed by the Governor,” said Senator Jim Tedisco, who noted that some of the victims and their families are from the 49thSenate District.
“With summer just getting into full swing, many New Yorkers will be renting limos for weddings, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and to avoid drinking and driving when going out socially with family and friends. Remember, if the individual doesn’t care who gets the credit, the group can achieve incredible results. It’s time to get back to session and put the limo safety laws on the books. Let’s get this done as soon as possible in memory of the victims and to prevent future tragedies,” said Tedisco.
