Metzger’s Information Session on Utility Rights and New Housing Laws Draws Landlords, Renters, and Homeowners

Middletown, NY…Last evening, at Mulberry House Senior Center in Middletown, State Senator Jen Metzger (SD-42) partnered with the Public Utility Law Project (PULP) and Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) on an information session for landlords, renters, and homeowners that covered their rights as utility customers and key provisions in the recently adopted Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act, which may affect them.
“Information is power and I was thrilled to partner with Legal Services of the Hudson Valley and the Public Utility Law Project to connect my constituents with legal experts to learn about New York’s new housing and tenant protection laws and about residents’ rights in their dealings with utilities,” said Senator Metzger. “Prior to becoming a State Senator, I spent years advocating for our residents and small businesses in utility rate cases in my work as Director of Citizens for Local Power, and I know how important it is for people to be knowledgeable about their rights vis-a-vis these companies."
"Legal Services of the Hudson Valley is proud to partner with Senator Metzger and Public Utility Law Project to educate the public on the new tenant protection laws in New York. We are committed to providing community education to residents of Orange and Sullivan Counties and grateful to the Senator for providing this forum for us to do so,” said Sarah Maida, Attorney in Charge, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley.
"The Public Utility Law Project thanks Senator Metzger for organizing the Know Your Rights forum and including our group in such an important community service. New York State has strong utility consumer protections for tenants, and PULP is happy to inform the Senator's community of their rights," said Richard Berkley, PULP's Executive Director. "Especially with winter coming, we are proud to partner with Senator Metzger in making sure every tenant has a warm and safe home."
