December 10, 2019
Liberty, NY...Senator Jen Metzger (SD-42) presented the New York State Senate’s Empire Award to Sullivan 180’s Board Chair Sandra Gerry and Executive Director Sandi Rowland at the organization’s headquarters in Liberty on Thursday. The Empire Award is given to exceptional organization's that go out of their way to give back to the community.
“I had the privilege of presenting a NYS Senate Empire Award to Sullivan 180 in recognition of the organization’s outstanding efforts in advancing health equity and promoting wellness in Sullivan County,” said Senator Metzger. “Through a range of initiatives that include improving food accessibility, increasing access to affordable healthcare, and implementing educational training programs, Sullivan 180’s approach to community health and wellness is truly something to be celebrated.”
Sullivan County remains among New York’s worst counties for health outcomes, and Sullivan 180 is actively working to address the county’s needs through a variety of programs. The nonprofit's Community Health Champions wellness circles, worksite wellness committees, and clubs all encourage residents to meet regularly to support one another and share experiences -- surrounding smoking cessation, diet improvement, exercise regimens, stress reduction, and more -- as they pursue healthier lifestyles together.
Other recent Empire Awards recipients honored by Senator Metzger’s office include Sher-Brook Organic Dairy in Delhi and Soons Orchard in New Hampton.
