Last month State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. visited the DaVita Ozone Park Dialysis Center to meet the team and learn about dialysis and kidney disease, while also meeting with some patients to hear about their treatment at the center.
During the walking tour of the facility, located at 100-02 Rockaway Boulevard, Addabbo witnessed how the dialysis center treats patients, saw the water treatment process room and learned how they clean the water used in treatment, and he even got to meet with some patients and hear their stories of how their dialysis treatment is going.
“It was an eye-opening experience to see the patients hooked up to the dialysis machines and getting the life-saving care they need, right here in Ozone Park,” Addabbo said of the visit. “It was interesting to see how much work goes into running a facility like this, and it really gave me an appreciation for the entire staff and the hard work that they put in each day.”
After touring the on-site facilities, Addabbo learned of DaVita’s home dialysis program, which gives patients extensive training that allows them to treat their dialysis from the comfort of their own homes, or to even take their treatment on the road with them, all while continuing to have access to a care team.
“We were honored to welcome Senator Addabbo to our center,” says group facility administrator, Erin Newlands. “It’s very important for our elected officials to hear from patients about the realities of living with kidney disease and ways to improve care delivery.”
Addabbo even offered to put them in touch with administrators at the Addabbo Family Health Clinic, named after his father Joseph P. Addabbo, Sr., as a way to help the Ozone Park facility expand and bring their amazing work to even more patients who need the care.
“Any way I can help a company that provides so much for the community, I will do it,” Addabbo said. “I would like to thank the incredible staff for showing me around the center, and for the amazing work they do every day to care for their patients and keep Ozone Park Dialysis running effectively and efficiently.”
