State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and Assemblyman Mike Miller are teaming up with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to bring a free rain barrel giveaway to Glendale this June.
On Saturday, June 8, Addabbo, Miller, and DEP will be at the Yeshiva Godolah Seminary, located at 74-10 88th Street in Glendale, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. giving away free rain barrels to those who pre-register. Those who do not register will be able to pick up a free rain barrel between 12 and 1 p.m. on a first-come first-serve basis.
The rain barrels are 55-gallon plastic barrels that attach to a rain gutter to collect and store excess water during periods of rainfall. That rainwater can then be used to complete tasks around the house rather than using fresh water.
“When residents use these rain barrels to capture excess rainwater, it can have a major impact on our environment here in the city,” Addabbo said. “By using the stored rainwater for household tasks such as watering their garden or washing their car instead of regular tap water, residents not only preserve their drinking water, but they can also save some money on their water bills. I would like to thank Assemblyman Miller and DEP for continuing to partner with me on these great events, and I encourage everyone to register for a free rain barrel.”
“Every year Senator Addabbo and I co-sponsor a rain barrel event with DEP to help our constituents become more eco-friendly,” said Assemblyman Miller. “Collecting rainwater will conserve water and reduce the amount of surface pollutants.”
To register for your free rain barrel, please call Addabbo’s office at 718-738-1111 and leave your name and address. There will be a limit of one rain barrel per household.
