Griffo announces Greeley Ford reconfirmed as New York State Liquor Authority Commissioner
June 21, 2019
ALBANY – New York State Senate Deputy Minority Leader Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, announced today that the state Senate has reconfirmed Greeley Ford of Camden as a commissioner to the New York State Liquor Authority.
Ford will serve a three-year term on the authority's three member board. He has served as a commissioner since 2016 after he was recommended by Deputy Minority Leader Griffo, nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the state Senate.
The liquor authority has two core statutory functions: properly issuing liquor licenses and permits in a timely fashion, and ensuring compliance with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Law. The chairman and the commissioners of the authority's board are responsible for creating policy, developing strategy and directing initiatives that create a regulatory framework designed to efficiently, ethically and professionally accomplish these functions. The commissioners also ensure the work of the authority is consistent with the overall strategy and goals set by the Governor’s administration.
The authority meets several times a month in New York City to conduct hearings concerning the liquor licenses of establishments throughout the state.
Deputy Minority Leader Griffo said, “Greeley has proven to be an outstanding, dedicated and hard-working member of the New York State Liquor Authority board ever since he was first confirmed three years ago. He has proven to be a valued and respected board member, and I have no doubt that he will continue to serve New York State and the authority well.”
Ford – who also is known throughout the community as a bass player in the band Classified – is a graduate of Utica College and is currently a Senior Network Consulting Engineer for AT&T Upstate New York. In 1988, Ford began his career as one of the original eight employees of Cellular One in Utica before it became AT&T.
