Senator LaValle Announces Availability of College Scholarships from NYS Legislative Conference
February 25, 2019
February 25, 2019 - Senator Ken LaValle announced today that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is now accepting applications for scholarships for future or existing college students.
Senator LaValle said, “With the high expenses of college, students should take advantage of every opportunity to offset the costs. I’m hopeful that students in my district apply for the awards. Nothing would make me more proud than to have our area residents be selected to receive one of the scholarships.”
This year, the Italian-American State Legislators Conference will be awarding four $3,500 scholarships to current or future college students from New York State. Two of the scholarships will be selected in each the “Academic” and “Athletic” category. Eligibility will be based upon the student’s grade point average (demonstrated 85 and over), interest in pursuing a higher education degree, involvement in the local community as well as individual financial need.
Awardees must reside in one of the NY Conference of Italian-American State Legislator member’s district. The applications for Senator LaValle’s constituents are available for download on the Senator’s web site at LaValle.NYSenate.gov
The deadline for filing is Friday, March 29th. Scholarships are scheduled to be awarded to be awarded on June 3th during the Conference’s Annual Legislative Conference Day.
The Conference is a bipartisan organization of New York State Assembly and Senate members who are actively involved in promoting and celebrating the state’s Italian-American community. The Conference mission is to work hard to elevate and highlight Italian-American contributions to the State of New York and beyond, in all aspects of society, including literature, the arts, architecture and politics. The conference also tries to dispel negative stereotypes of Italian-Americans.
