(Brooklyn, New York) - As the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) welcomes their new President State Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter (SC), the organization also appointed their policy committee chairmanships and this year, they have selected New York State Senator Kevin Parker to be the Chairman of the Energy, Transportation, and Environment Policy Committee.
“It is a huge honor to be appointed Chair of the Energy Policy Committee,” said Senator Parker. “I am passionate now more than ever to ensure that we work towards a clean energy future that includes green collar jobs and employment opportunities at all levels for people of color. This year I will have the ability to not only advocate for energy issues and communities of color as Chairman of the New York State Senate Committee on Energy and Telecommunications, but now nationally as Energy Policy Chair at the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. I am humbled and honored at this opportunity,” concluded Senator Parker.
The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) is the nation's premier organization representing and serving the interests of African American State legislators. The organization currently has more than 700 members representing more than 60 million Americans. NBCSL serves as a national network, advocate and catalyst for public policy innovation, information exchange, and joint action on critical issues affecting African Americans and other marginalized communities.
NBCSL has a total of 15 committees ranging in issues that affect constituents throughout the United States. The Energy, Transposition, and Environment Policy Committee that Senator Parker will lead is critically important as it works to monitor issues related to conventional and renewable energy sources, domestic transportation, and environmental protection. The committee reviews issues concerning research; exploration; development; production; utilization; and regulation in the energy and transportation sectors. The committee also considers matters concerning air, water, and surface transportation.
