(Garden City, NY) – In light of the tragic crash/derailment in Westbury, Senator Kevin Thomas (D-Levittown) has drafted a bill that installs cameras at railroad crossing intersections.
“It would act as a safety deterrent for drivers who feel the need to speed past a gate,” Senator Thomas said. “I was deeply bothered by the double collision that killed three people.”
The legislation would lead to ticketing drivers who want to navigate around the gates as speeding trains approach.
(Senator Thomas is available for phone interviews today.)
