(Garden City, NY) – Senator Kevin Thomas has introduced a bill (S4228) establishing a new license plate that bears the phrase “I Support Music Education.” Payments for the plate would go toward an “I Support Music Education” fund.
Each $25 annual fee gets deposited directly into the fund.
“Music is the key to our soul. Unfortunately, many school districts can’t afford the necessary instruments and supplies for those departments to run effectively. This is a great way to get funds from people who want to help,” Senator Kevin Thomas said.
The music education fund would be in joint custody of the commissioner of taxation and finance and the comptroller.
Money from the fund shall be used only for music education projects approved by the Department of Education in New York State.
The bill has been referred to the Senate Transportation Committee.
