New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez Joins United States Senator Charles Schumer in Advocating for Federal Funding for Long Island’s MacArthur Airport

New York State Senator, Monica R. Martinez, alongside United States Senator Charles Schumer and Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter held a press conference at LI MacArthur Airport outside of the Islip Terminal on February 21, 2019 to advocate for a multi-million dollar capital project that would benefit the local economy by creating new jobs and bringing additional business to the area.

Currently, LI MacArthur Airport does not have flights to popular West Coast destinations such as Los Angeles. Senator Schumer’s plan would use this funding to revamp over 350,000 square feet of the airport and allow for flights to the West Coast. The funding will come from the FAA’s AIP (Airport Improvement Project), which aims to help the Long Island MacArthur Airport attract new airline carriers to their facility.

“Long Island MacArthur Airport is a fantastic resource that deserves funding for vital infrastructure upgrades,” stated Senator Martinez. “Making critical investments to improve and modernize the existing aging infrastructure will allow MacArthur Airport to offer additional flight options and be a more attractive destination for tourism to Long Island.”
