GENEVA – As part of National Youth Leadership Month in February, Senator Pam Helming today invited local educators and community leaders to nominate high school students for the prestigious New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Award. The award honors high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated real leadership and achievement in their school or community.
“Our region is home to many outstanding young leaders who are deeply involved in their schools and communities through a variety of avenues, and they also serve as positive role models for their peers. The Youth Leadership Recognition Award program is a terrific way to recognize these students for their many accomplishments. Last year, I had the privilege of honoring 14 students from across the Wayne-Finger Lakes region at a ceremony toward the end of the school year. I look forward to reviewing this year’s submissions and recognizing each one of them with this prestigious award,” Senator Helming said.
The Youth Leadership Recognition Awards program recognizes well-rounded high school juniors and seniors who excel not only academically but also through extracurricular activities and community service. The awards include four categories: Academics, Athletics, Arts, and Community Service. The award recipients will receive a certificate of recognition.
Local educators and community leaders can nominate students by completing the online nomination form on Senator Helming’s website at helming.nysenate.gov and attaching a recommendation letter and the student’s brief statement about his or her accomplishments. Nominations may come from teachers, administrators, counselors, or other school faculty.
Senator Helming will honor the selected students during a ceremony slated to take place in June, and she will also share their stories on her website. Participating schools may nominate a maximum of five high school students for the program. All nominations must be submitted online by April 5, 2019.
