Senator Helming Attends Dedication at Romulus High School
November 7, 2019
Senator Pam Helming today attended a dedication at Romulus High School to celebrate renovations to the school’s baseball field and an unveiling of a new veterans’ memorial sign. The sign features the names of 121 veterans from Romulus who were drafted during World War II, including one veteran, Howard Falke of Rochester, who is still alive today.
The idea of a new sign originated from the late Ralph Walborn Sr. who began using his own funds to restore the school’s former sign. Mr. Walborn brought his idea to Senator Helming who provided $75,000 in state funding to complete the new sign, improve the baseball field and renovate the MacDougall Schoolhouse.
“Today’s event was a testament to both Mr. Ralph Walborn Sr. who had an idea and brought it to life and our veterans who have served and protected us. This sign will serve as a permanent reminder of the sacrifice our veterans have made for us and our way of life,” Senator Helming said.
