Senator Helming Honors 10 Students As Outstanding Youth Leaders

PHELPS – Senator Pam Helming recently recognized 10 local high school students who received New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Awards during a ceremony at Seeley B. Parish American Legion Post 457. The students represented four local school districts as well as Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, and they earned this prestigious honor for their outstanding student leadership and achievement in academics, athletics, arts, and community service. The students honored with the awards were: Spencer Bonawitz, of Midlakes High School; Sean Bronson, of Waterloo High School; Corrine Brown, of Midlakes High School; Aidan Cort, of Midlakes High School; Maverick Coryell, of Midlakes High School; Kenneth DeLand, of Midlakes High School; Briana McCoy, of South Seneca High School; Alexandria Nicolini, of Waterloo High School; Emma Smithers, of Waterloo High School; and Jennifer Schenck, of Union Springs High School and Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES.

“It was a true pleasure to recognize these wonderful high school students and honor their outstanding achievements. I also enjoyed meeting the teachers and administrators who nominated them for this prestigious award as well as their superintendents who see their terrific work firsthand and their parents who raised such amazing young men and women. When I read about these students’ accomplishments and see all they have done and plan to do, I know our future is in good hands with this next generation of exemplary leaders. Our region is home to many outstanding young leaders who are deeply involved in their communities and serve as role models to their peers, and they possess exceptional leadership qualities and the determination to make a difference in the future success of our communities. I am encouraged by the talent, academic excellence, and outstanding community service of so many young adults, and I wish them all much success in all of their future endeavors,” Senator Helming said.
