WATERLOO – Senator Pam Helming recently visited Waterloo High School to recognize student-athletes from the varsity softball team that won the Section V, Class C2 championship during the spring season. She also honored junior Alexandria Nicolini, who received one of Senator Helming’s New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Awards but was unable to attend the ceremony. Senator Helming presented New York State Senate Proclamations to Head Coach Kierstyn DeCory and to the Waterloo Indians softball team and New York State Senate Citations to the individual players. She also presented a Certificate of Recognition to Alexandria. Senator Helming also recognized baseball player Matt Barron for being named Finger Lakes East Player of the Year, baseball coach Dan McGuane for being named Section V, Class B2 Coach of the Year, and girls lacrosse player Kari Jensen for earning a Section V Scholarship.
“As New York State Senator, I am proud to recognize citizens for their outstanding achievements and significant contributions in their communities. I especially enjoy honoring students for their accomplishments, whether in academics or in extracurricular activities. It was a privilege to pay tribute to the Waterloo Indians softball players for winning the Section V, Class B2 championship. It was also a pleasure to meet Alexandria, recognize her academic and extracurricular excellence, and learn more about her future goals and plans. Whether on the court or in the classroom, this kind of success does not come easy and is not handed to anybody. It takes a group of people who are willing to work together as a team and give everything they have. It takes a tremendous amount of diligence and persistence, commitment and determination, especially to balance practices with homework, extracurricular activities, jobs, and other obligations. Congratulations to Coach DeCory and her team as well as Alexandria on their respective honors,” Senator Helming said.
