Senator Pam Helming
June 10, 2019
WEBSTER – Senator Pam Helming recently visited Webster Thomas High School to recognize student-athletes from the cheerleading team that won the state championship during the winter season. She also honored indoor track and field athlete Monique Hardy, who won state championships in the weight throw and shot put events during the season. Senator Helming presented New York State Senate Citations to Coach Michelle Byam and the members of the cheerleading team as well as a Citation to Monique.
“Winning a state championship is about much more than just being able to perform the routine or complete the throw. It takes a group of people who are willing to work together as a team and individuals who are willing to give everything they have. It takes a tremendous amount of diligence and persistence. It also takes a tremendous amount of commitment and determination, especially at the high school level, with homework, extracurricular activities, jobs, and other obligations along with practices and matches. A championship is something that is truly earned by every team member and every individual, not something handed to them. The entire Webster Thomas cheerleading team, as well as Monique, should be proud of their championships. They made their school proud, their community proud, and our entire region proud. It was a privilege to honor these outstanding student-athletes, and I wish them much success next season and beyond,” Senator Helming said.
