Senator Helming Named to Agriculture, Racing, and Housing Committees

GENEVA – Senator Pam Helming today announced that she has been named as a member of the Agriculture Committee, Racing, Gaming, and Wagering Committee, and Housing, Construction, and Community Development Committee. She will also serve as the ranking member of the Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business Committee and the ranking member of the Commission on Rural Resources.
“With these three committee assignments, I will be able to represent the people of the Wayne-Finger Lakes region and advocate for the issues that are important to them. Agriculture is a vital part of our region’s economy, not just as a standalone industry but also in conjunction with local tourism and our food and beverage industry. I look forward to continuing to fight for our farmers and farm families and make sure that they have the resources they need for their operations to grow and thrive. It is clear that investing in the quality of life in our communities means investing in economic development at the same time because happy, healthy families in turn help local businesses grow and thrive, so I look forward to working toward improving and strengthening our communities as a member of the Commerce Committee. Together with my colleagues, we will provide upstate with a voice in Albany,” Senator Helming said.
With agriculture being the No. 1 industry in the Wayne-Finger Lakes region and one of the top industries in New York State, Senator Helming will review legislation and funding related to agriculture in her role on the Agriculture Committee and advocate of behalf of farms, farmers, and farm families around our region and across our state. With Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack located in the Town of Farmington, Ontario County, and the del Lago Resort & Casino situated in the Town of Tyre, Seneca County, Senator Helming will bring an integral viewpoint to the Racing, Gaming, and Wagering Committee. On the Housing, Construction, and Community Development Committee, Senator Helming will help improve the climate for residents, communities, and businesses alike.
