Senator Pam Helming today announced that her legislation which provides for the inclusion of a check off box on personal income tax forms for the purpose of making a gift to the William B. Hoyt Memorial Children and Family trust fund has been signed into law.

The bill, S.2503 allows a taxpayer to make any whole dollar contribution to the William B. Hoyt Memorial Children and Family trust fund for tax years beginning after January 1, 2021.

“The William B. Hoyt Memorial Children and Family trust fund provides for so many different services to help combat domestic violence. Protecting against child abuse and maltreatment; helping children who have been affected by domestic violence; strengthening the safety of our elderly; and caregiver support are just some of the services they offer. Providing people with the option to make a donation through their tax returns is a wonderful tool to help increase funding to enhance and expand services. I am proud to have sponsored this bill and will continue to advocate for groups and organizations that strengthen local families and help protect children from abuse and violence” said Senator Helming.

“The Children and Family Trust Fund is a critically important funding source for child abuse prevention programs. Over the past 10 years, the Trust Fund's resources have decreased dramatically-- from millions of dollars to just $600,000 annually. We hope that this tax check-off box raises some revenue but, more importantly, that it raises awareness that these programs are necessary for the safety and well-being of children statewide, “said Tim Hathaway, Executive Director, Prevent Child Abuse NY.
